Shout out to my friends at Dog News! One of the fun features in a GREAT Dog Show magazine.
Here’s a peek at what Laura had to say:
On dog-show superstitions:
Every special dog Laura’s shown has had its own lead that was then retired with the dog. She’s had as many as four brown ribbons for one armband. Two, not four. Four dogs, each with its own “song” in the ring.
On her TV-show guilty pleasure:
Kim is in charge of the remote. Laura suffers in silence.
On what she’d do if she became president of AKC:
Consolidate. Jettison extraneous expenses and dump every extra penny into a well-planned, ongoing public-education campaign promoting purebred dogs and dog breeders.
On her most valued material possession:
Her mother’s handwritten recipe book, given to her when she graduated from college.
On something no one would guess about her:
She has an entire Facebook page called Auntie Laura, dedicated to helping people cook healthy, delicious food on a budget. It’s a little dusty these days, but it’s still there.
On who she’d compare herself to:
Candace Bergen with a dash of Ellen and a splash of Samantha Bee.
On what she’s “famous” for:
She’s been told her face can be a bit too expressive.
On the website she visits most often:
eBay.
On her most satisfying win or disappointing defeat:
Her most satisfying wins were with dogs who came to her needing a lot of extra time and attention to be successful. She loved the challenge those dogs presented. Best in Show on the Spinone, GCHS Darby Canyon Mick Jagger, was a particularly memorable example.
On who she’d wish to see at a Round Table:
Live, the first Tuesday of the month, on Lightning Round with Laura. Otherwise, she’d invite German Wirehaired Pointers, the Lewis and Clark Trail, and cooking as her top three topics.
